FairPrice Group: A Top Ten Innovative Company in Singapore
The Fair Price Group is recognized as a top ten innovative company in Singapore by Retail Store Tours. This recognition is for Vipul Chawla, the Group CEO of FairPrice Group in Singapore, and the FairPrice Group team for developing new shopping experiences that improve the customer journey.
FairPrice Group (FPG), whose mission is “keeping daily essentials within reach for all in Singapore,” is working to fulfill that mission with the most advanced technology available.
Currently, FPG is rolling out innovations aimed at making shopping easier on the wallet as well as a more efficient and pleasurable experience for customers. Solutions include smart shopping carts, digital price cards, and the hybrid digital-physical ShopBeyond retail format. Expansion to reach supermarkets across the island follows the launch of FPG’s Store of Tomorrow (SOT) program and first gen-AI-powered supermarket at Punggol Digital District in collaboration with Google Cloud.
FPG’s supermarket at Punggol Digital District serves as the testing ground for retail technology pilots run through the SOT program. Sarah Jane Vasquez, Branch Manager at Punggol Digital District, said that her role has evolved a lot since the introduction of the SOT program.
“New digital tools like Grocer Genie help me automate manual work like eyeballing when shelves need to be restocked and even staff management. This frees up time for me to lead and coach my team. Ultimately, this initiative has empowered us to serve our customers faster, smarter, and better.”
Full deployment of the program, developed with Google Cloud AI, is projected by the end of 2026.
Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of FairPrice Group brings thirty years of retail industry experience to his role as Group CEO. Prior to joining FPG in 2022, he led Fortune 500 companies across the world based in global hubs such as the UK, US, and Singapore. In his previous role, he was the Division President for Pizza Hut International, which is part of Yum! Brands, Inc., the world’s largest restaurant company with fifty thousand restaurants globally. Vipul led Pizza Hut International’s digital transformation, spearheading its transition into a purpose-driven, digitally enabled business. Under his management, the company increased its digital engagement from fifteen to sixty per cent.
Vipul said, “technology is most powerful when it makes peoples’ lives easier, and the SOT program is all about using digital innovation to do just that for FPG’s customers and staff. By bringing proven AI solutions from our Store of Tomorrow program to more supermarkets across the island, we want to reimagine the shopping experience for our customers and remove the friction from their weekly grocery runs. Whether it’s with smart carts that provide personalized offers and in-store navigation, or hybrid retail formats that bring together the best of physical and online shopping, our aim with the program is to make every day a little better for all in Singapore.”
FPG is also utilizing the Tanita body composition analysis at select FairPrice (Unity Pharmacy) outlets in Singapore, again beginning at the Punggol Digital District. By stepping on the machine, shoppers can get instant metrics on body fat, muscle mass, and more, which the Wellness Genie AI analyzes to provide customized health tips and product recommendations. For over seventy years, Tanita has helped people measure with confidence across health, fitness, and professional settings, with scales for everyday use and specialized needs.
Following a rigorous evaluation of how much they improve customer value and operational efficiency, a curated mix of these solutions will be deployed across FairPrice outlets by end-2026, tailored to the specific needs of each store.
