After founding the 7Fresh supermarket chain, which he sold to JD.com in 2017, Derek Du regrouped his team and set out to build an even smarter retail food chain. This became T11. The new business has three divisions: omnichannel retail, retail technology, and a smart processing and circulation center. Taken together, they form an elastic distributed e-commerce network that is currently expanding rapidly across China.

Innovation Award

The extent and seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic put to severe test the retail system that Derek Du had developed for T11. It had to handle a new influx of deliveries, online orders placed for pick-up, and contactless payments while keeping store personnel and customers safe. And all of this had to be done immediately. “When something like Covid-19 comes, it actually breaks our original systems and work habits. That is why the World Retail Forum is so valuable to us. We are able to share best practices and learn in real-time. We are honored to receive this award on behalf of the employees of T11 Food Market,” said Derek Du, Founder and CEO of T11 Food Market.
